There is plenty to look forward to in summer – vacation, picnics and bonding with the kids. These are the fun parts, but there’s also another side – where the kids are at home all day and drive you nuts! And one of the most common phrases you’re going to hear are “I’m bored!” and “I’m hungry!” For the former, we suggest a boredom box, and for the latter, we have an unbelievably easy snack recipe – Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies! They’re whole wheat, eggless and free from maida, sugar and baking soda – it doesn’t get healthier than this!
Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 large or 2 small ripe bananas
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (I have used both white and brown mini chocolate chips)
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line the baking tray with parchment paper or you can just grease it with melted butter or oil. Mash the ripe banana in a mixing bowl, either using a fork or potato masher.
2. Add flour to it and mix well.
3. Add chocolate chips and gather the mix together.
4. Scoop out equal portions of the mix onto the greased and lined baking tray. Spread them into round discs using back of the spoon ( Keep some space between the cookies)
5. Transfer the baking tray to a preheated oven and bake the cookies for 22-25 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Keep a watch after 20 minutes as the temperature may vary from oven to oven.
6. Allow the cookies to cool down completely on a wire rack. These cookies stay good for up to 2 days at room temperature in an airtight container. Serve with cold milk.
Sure, a visit to the local store will give you lots of options for a quick bite – from cream filled treats to sugar-coated sweets. But you know that it’s not exactly the best thing for your kids, what with all the with refined flour, artificial flavors and loads of sugar. But why would you want to go for all that when you can make your own homemade, whole wheat chocolate chip cookies – with just three ingredients!

Meghna says
Thanks for the above recipe.. I made buy centre looks uncooked… only thing I replaced chips with dried cranberries n berries… it’s become like rubber while chewing
Dr Hemapriya says
Hi Meghna,
If the centre looks uncooked then it is better if you can take small amount of the dough to prepare cookies, if you are taking a huge portion of cookie dough then it will take longer time to cook and the cooking time needs to be increased and also the we have to check once in a while so that it does not get burned off.
The dried cranberries will be gooey upon cooking it is best if you use any dried nuts to make it crunchy.
