If your toddler is suffering from diarrhea, there are some easy home remedies that you can try. Some of these home remedies for diarrhea in toddlers require only a few minutes of your time, while others may require a little more effort on your part. However, all of them are definitely worth trying if your little one is having trouble getting rid of his diarrhea.
It is impossible to prevent children from playing, and they will inevitably get sick as a result of their contact with the outside world. Some of the most common illnesses that little children suffer from are cold, cough, fever, diarrhea, and worms.
I have listed a few food modifications in this article to be used during diarrhea. Nourishing your child correctly and using natural kitchen remedies for common ailments reduces the need for heavy medications and antibiotics. Moreover, using natural food as medicine boosts your child’s natural immunity and helps ward off infections effectively.
What Causes Diarrhea?
The major cause of Diarrhea in children is due to
- Infected food and water.
- Putting dirty fingers in the mouth.
- Eating roadside food.
- Eating food prepared in unfiltered water.
- Using unclean vegetables/ fruits/meat in the diet causes intestinal distress and prevent the absorption of nutrients by the gut.
Diarrhoea is the body’s defence mechanism to throw out infections/ microbes from the gut. However, the body also throws out fluid, electrolytes, and nutrients in the process of eliminating infection; which causes weakness and malnutrition in the bargain.
Home Remedies for Diarrhea in Toddlers
Food given during such episodes must be fluid & electrolyte-rich, must be easy to digest and at the same time must be nourishing to the body.
Diarrhea may be of 2 types –
1. Infective
2. Mucous
Here is a detailed list of Home remedies for Diarrhea in toddlers for both infective and mucous diarrhea.
Home remedies for Diarrhea in Toddlers – Infective
1. Stewed apple with cinnamon & honey
The pectin in apple (especially after stewing) helps bind stools and absorbs excessive water from the gut, thus controlling diarrhea.
2. Plenty of seasoned curds
Seasoned curd works well against infective bacteria in the gut. It also aids in relieving any stomachache or cramps during diarrhea.
3. Coconut water
Electrolyte liquids are a must to ensure that the body is well hydrated.

5. Pomegranate juice

Hi Sonia,
As the baby is just 7 months, it’s important not to give too many remedies in one go. Check the above article and follow as per the age recommendation. And also keep the baby well hydrated and follow the doctor’s advice carefully.

Dear Shivali,
Without examining the baby I will not be able to advice the severity of the infection, give him lots of fluids, and easily digestible foods, feed “B-R-A-T” diet for 1 or 2 days. It is made of bananas, rice (cooked white rice, rice cereal, rice cakes), applesauce, and tea or dry toast (no butter or jelly). Keep your child’s diet bland until diarrhea is better.
