Pearl millet or bajra is rich in iron, calcium, and vitamin-B complex. This nutritious grain can be introduced as the form of porridge made from its flour. Various vegetable and fruit purees can be added to the porridge to make tomato pearl millet porridge appealing, enhance its taste and make it all the more nutritious. In this tomato pearl millet porridge recipe, I have added tomato puree to the pearl millet flour and cooked it into a porridge consistency. I have also added a little black pepper powder to the porridge to make it flavorful.
Tomato Pearl Millet Porridge
Ingredients:
- Tomatoes – 1 large or 2 small
- Pearl millet / bajra flour – 2 tablespoon
- Black pepper powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Method:
- Heat 2 cups water in a sauce pan. Add tomato to it. Allow to boil for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the skin of the tomato and chop it roughly. Transfer to a grinder jar and make puree. Strain the puree with a strainer to remove the seeds.
- In a sauce pan take 2 tablespoon of pearl millet flour and add tomato puree to it. Mix well. Add more water gradually to get a thin lump free solution.
- Transfer the sauce pan to the gas top and heat at low to medium flame. Cook the porridge while stirring continuously until it becomes thick and looks cooked.
- Remove the porridge in a bowl. Add black pepper powder and give a quick stir. You may add little ghee to the porridge before serving it to the baby.
Tomato is rich in immunity boosting ingredients and hence this is the best immunity boosting food for babies. This porridge is suitable for babies above 8 months of age.
