Treat your kids and their friends to a refreshing Sattu Sherbet, made with healthy ingredients!
Sattu sharbet is a protein-rich drink and an excellent summer coolant. Sattu is a flour obtained from roasted black gram and is easily available in Indian grocery stores. Sattu sharbet can be made both sweet and savory way. Here we are sharing a delicious and refreshing savory version of sattu sharbet. Sattu is a power house of nutrients. Apart from being rich in proteins, it is also rich in dietary fiber, iron, manganese and magnesium.
Sattu Sherbet for Kids
Ingredients for Sattu Sherbet:
- 3 tablespoon sattu / roasted black gram flour
- 2 cups water (use cold water from earthenware)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- Black Salt to taste
- 7-8 fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method for preparing Sattu Sherbet:
1. In a mixing bowl take sattu. Add about 1/2 cup water to it and whisk well.
2. Now add the remaining 1 1/2 cup water followed by black salt, cumin powder, black pepper powder, chopped mint leaves and lemon juice. Give a good stir.
3. Pour into serving glasses, garnish with lemon wedge and serve!
- Do not replace the black salt with ordinary salt as it gives a distinct taste to sattu sharbet.
- Fresh coriander leaves may also be added along with mint leaves.
- Traditionally, finely chopped onion and minced green chili is also added in this sharbet. I have not added here, as it is to be served to kids. You may add onion though as it gives a bite to the sattu sharbet.
This sattu sherbet is an excellent way of adding this super food into your kid’s diet. As it cools down the body temperature, this drink is excellent during Summers. This is a vegan, no-cook and gluten free recipe which can be made in a jiffy.
