This oatmeal porridge recipe is a basic, nutrient rich recipe which aids overall development and healthy weight gain in babies.
Oatmeal porridge recipe is one of the ideal first foods for weaning babies. Oats is easy to digest, provide energy, are high in fiber, antioxidants and minerals like, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorous etc. that are essential for growth and development of babies.
Another benefit of oatmeal is that it has quite a neutral taste, which means you can add pretty much anything to it to increase its nutritional value while also enhancing the taste. You can add fruit purees, vegetable purees, powdered nuts or dry fruits powder.
Today’s recipe is a porridge using homemade oats cereal. I have powdered rolled cut organic oats in a blender and used it to make the porridge. If you get no time, you can opt for organic oatmeal which can be directly made into porridge. While introducing this porridge to your baby, make sure it is in the diluted form. Once the baby is used to it, you may gradually feed her thicker porridge.
Oatmeal Porridge Recipe
Ingredients:
- Oats cereal – 2 Teaspoon
Method to prepare the oats cereal:
- Take organic, gluten free rolled oats and pulse them in a grinder jar to get powdered oats.
- Store this powdered oats in an air tight glass container and use as per need.

Method to prepare the porridge:
- Take 2 teaspoon of the homemade oats cereal in a pan. Add 1 cup water to it. Whisk it well.
- Now transfer the pan to gas top and allow the mix to boil and cook for about 5 minutes or until it thickens a bit.
- Keep stirring continuously to make sure that the porridge does not catch the bottom of the pan.
- Put off the flame. Transfer the porridge to a sterilized dry bowl and serve to your baby. You may further dilute the porridge with breast- milk if desired.
The ratio of water and mix can be changed as per the desired consistency. This recipe is suitable for babies above 6 months. You may add fruit purees in this porridge for babies above 7 months. Dates powder can be used as a natural sweetener after 8 months. Once your baby is older and eating larger chunks of food, you can add sliced soft fruits like banana.
