How to make Mixed Vegetable Soup for Babies & Toddlers?
Ingredients
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 carrot finely chopped
- 7-8 French beans finely chopped
- 2-3 florets of broccoli finely chopped
- 3-4 button mushrooms finely chopped (can be avoided for babies)
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 2 tsp butter
- Salt
- Black pepper powder/ Jeera Powder
- 1 tbsp milk (can be added for babies older than 1 year)
- 1/2 glass water
- Veggies of your choice can be added.
Method
1. In a pan, heat a small amount of butter along with a drizzle of oil, infusing the soup with rich and savory flavors. This combination of butter and oil adds a delightful richness to the vegetable soup for babies, elevating its taste and making it even more appealing to their palate
2. In the heated pan, add onions and sauté them until they beautifully transform into a delicate shade of light pink. The sautéed onions bring a subtle sweetness and depth of flavor to the vegetable soup for babies, enhancing its taste and creating a harmonious balance of flavors.
3. Add freshly grated ginger to the pan and cook until the raw smell dissipates. The aromatic ginger adds a subtle warmth and depth of flavor to the vegetable soup for babies, making it even more enticing and enjoyable for their taste buds.
4. Add all the chopped vegetables, including carrots, beans, peas, and cauliflower, to the pan and stir-fry for two minutes. This step adds a nutritious and flavorful touch to the vegetable soup for babies, ensuring that they receive a variety of vitamins and minerals in each spoonful.
5. Pour the appropriate amount of water into the pan, allowing it to gradually heat up until it reaches a rolling boil. The boiling water will infuse the vegetables with its essence, extracting their flavors and nutrients, resulting in a nourishing and delicious vegetable soup for babies.
6. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and a dash of black pepper powder into the pan, adjusting the seasoning to your taste preferences. These additions will further enhance the flavor profile of the vegetable soup for babies, providing a subtle yet delightful seasoning that complements the natural taste of the vegetables.
7. Allow the water to simmer over a low flame, maintaining a gentle heat, until all the vegetables in the soup become tender. This slow cooking process ensures that the flavors meld together and the vegetables soften to the desired texture, making the vegetable soup for babies a comforting and nourishing dish
8. Finally, add milk to the simmering soup and allow it to boil for a brief period. This addition of milk lends a creamy and smooth texture to the soup, enhancing its taste and nutritional value. It completes the preparation of the vegetable soup, which is now ready to be served as a wholesome and comforting meal for your little one.
9. The vegetable soup is now ready to be served! Its delightful aroma and nourishing ingredients make it a perfect choice for babies and toddlers during the winter season. Ladle the warm soup into bowls and watch as your little one enjoys each spoonful. This homemade soup is not only delicious but also packed with essential nutrients from the vegetables, providing a healthy and comforting meal.
10. Serve the vegetable soup in a bowl and garnish with coriander for added freshness and flavor.
Editor’s Note
For babies, when you introduce soup, sieve off the top water and feed a couple of times. Then the whole soup can be blended in a mixie or blender and can be given.

Hi Hema,
My daughter is 11 months old , as she has her food with in 5 mins she do her potty .. per day she does for 2 to 3 times a day … am feeding her with home made Uggu , kichidi and thin layers of chapati soaked in formula milk and her wait is only 7 1/2 kgs only ..
Please suggest me to increase he weight .
Dr Hemapriya says
Hi Sujatha,
2 to 3 times pottying in a day is not to be worried. It’s not to be concerned about as long as he does not cry during potty or pass blood. As soon as the food reaches the stomach, it starts a peristaltic wave which pushes the stools in the rectum, this expulsion happens only after digestion. You can add weight gaining foods regularly in his diet for best results. But weight is not to be worried if your baby is active and healthy 🙂

Can I give this soup to my 7th month old baby
pr says
Hi Reena,
Yes, it can be given, if all the vegetables are already introduced individually. Please don’t add salt until baby becomes 1 year.

Hello,
My twin baby is 23 months old but don’t want to eat anything except milk with suji or sabu. They take this in sleeping even though in day time. Its become a great problem for me to feed them in this way. I have tried my best to feed them various items in waking but they cry and shout not interested to take food. This has an impact on their health.
How could i change their food habit?
Dr Hemapriya says
Hi Shyamali, I understand that it is no cake walk with Tweens. and Certainly you are doing all a mom could. If you have some help at home then you can perhaps take turns to feed. Do not feed food while kids are lying down that is rather wrong. Prepare beautiful and fancy food plates for both of them and try to leave from there after you do so. Do not make food activity pushy else the kids may develop distaste. Remember when they get no attention, eventually they will eat what you offer. It certainly will take time to help them get into this habit, but keep trying. Check the site for variety of food you can give for this age group.

Dear Dr Hema,
Good to know the recipe for vegetable soup .In this recipe you have used milk along with salt and
I have read somewhere that we should not take milk with salt ,I am not sure about the reason but would really appreciate if you can help me with this because most of the time I got confused what kind of non salted snack I can provide to my 13 months old daughter along with milk and so I left with no other option but milk only .
Thanks
Dr Hemapriya says
Hi Shweta,
Thank you for your comment. It is believed in Ayurveda that the milk metabolism will be affected by the salt and hence it is said to be avoided. You can skip milk for this soup. You can give some healthy cookies as evening snacks for your baby.
Hope this helped
Cheers
Hema
