When I think of school, I remember our English teacher distinctly. For some reason, the other kids thought that language wasn’t as important a subject as, say Math or Science, and it was often given a step-sisterly treatment by most students. Our English teacher took great pains to explain that a good command of language was just as important, and that it was what would help create that first impression which would prove so valuable later in life.
As an adult who has gone through the college-job circus, I realize the wisdom of her words. You may have the necessary information, but solid language skills will certainly give you that extra edge and set you on the way to success by opening the doors of opportunity. In nearly every field today, a good knowledge of English, the universal language, is considered a valuable skill, and candidates who can communicate well in English are often given an extra consideration in job interviews and the like.
I’m sure most parents today agree with these facts, but many of us are still not sure about how we can develop good language skills in our kids. Today’s digital generation needs something more engaging than a simple book and this is exactly what the Cambridge English Young Learners program has been able to achieve.
The Cambridge English Young Learners Program is a series of tests targeted towards primary & upper secondary school children. These tests make use of today’s tech-loving kids’ interests and the as a result, the tests are held in an interactive, brightly illustrated format.
The Cambridge English Young Learners tests have been developed by a not-for-profit department of the University of Cambridge, and have three levels – Starters (6-7 years), Movers (8-10 years) and Flyers (11-12 years). This ensures that the tests are perfect to test your child’s level of English, on an international level. The focus is on practical language skills, like listening and speaking, reading and writing.
The tests are available on computers and tablets, so they can be taken from anywhere, anytime and the results are also available without delay. Every part of the test has an appropriate example so that the child knows exactly how to answer it. You also get enough practice material to help your child prepare for the test, including sample tests and games to make the process fun for kids.
Every child who takes the test receives a certificate from Cambridge English, with specific information on how he’s done with respect to each language skill, in the form of badges. This helps you stay abreast of your child’s progress and also gives him a sense of achievement at having completed the test.
Learning to communicate effectively in English is an essential life skill in today’s world and something that is easier learnt at a young age. By mastering this skill, your child’s self esteem and confidence will improve dramatically and he’ll feel much more equipped to take on any challenge at school. So get going and sign up for the Cambridge English Young Learners Program!
