When your family craves cookies but you want to avoid store-bought ones with harmful substances, there’s a delightful solution: eggless oats cookies. Traditionally, every Indian home used to have a pack of biscuits or cookies, but with increased awareness, moms are turning to homemade snacks for their kids. However, the appeal of a warm, freshly baked cookie with its soft crunch and sweet, nutty flavor is hard to resist. So, why not satisfy your cookie cravings and bake your own batch of wholesome and delicious eggless oats cookies?
These eggless oats cookies are among the easiest you can make, with healthy ingredients too. The first time I tried this recipe was from here, since it doesn’t have any baking powder or soda. It does have white sugar, but you can replace it with brown sugar if you like. The best part is that it is made of ground oats, a superfood that has many nutritional benefits for children.
Nutritional Benefits of Oats
- Oats contain more soluble fiber than any other grain.
- It is low in saturated fat and very low in cholesterol and sodium.
- It is rich in manganese and is a good source of thiamine, magnesium and phosphorous.
- Oats is the only cereal containing a legume-like protein as their storage protein.
- Oats protein is equivalent in quantity to soy protein, meat, milk and egg protein.
Eggless Oats Cookies for Toddlers
Ingredients:
- Quaker Oats – 100 gm
- Sugar – 50 gm (You can decrease the amount if you like)
- Ghee – 60 gm
- Whole wheat flour – 3 tbsp (The original recipe used maida; I skipped it and used whole wheat instead)
Method:
1. Grind the oats and sugar separately into a fine powder.
2. Put the ghee in a bowl. Add the powdered sugar and cream well using a large spoon or ladle.
3. Give the powdered oats a good whisk and then add it into the creamed sugar and ghee.
4. Add the whole wheat flour and whisk so that all the ingredients are mixed well.
5. Use your hands to form a dough. It may be too soft to handle, so chill it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
6. Preheat the oven to 360 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the dough from fridge; it is probably firmer by now. Divide the dough into lemon sized balls.
7. Take one portion ball and flatten it in the palm of your hand. If you’d like to make thumbprint cookies, use a rounded measuring spoon to form a small depression in the center. You can fill this hole with jam or chocolate, depending on your kids’ choice.
8. Alternatively, you can use a wet fork to press patterns on the cookie.
9. Once done with all the cookies, arrange them on a baking sheet, about an inch apart from each other. Place the sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Don’t let them brown completely, or they’ll get burnt.
10. Let the cookies cool to room temperature on a wire rack before serving.
These cookies pack in a lot of flavor, so all you need is a cup of plain milk! These are usually a great hit at kiddie parties and also at family gatherings on cold winter afternoons. So get baking and let your home fill with a lovely aroma!
