Before I share the delightful sweet potato dosa recipe, let me take you back to a time when my toddler refused to even try steamed sweet potatoes. It was a challenge to get him to enjoy this nutritious vegetable until my mother-in-law came to the rescue with her brilliant suggestion. She introduced me to a simple and flavorful recipe that transformed sweet potatoes into a family favorite. Let me share this innovative recipe that won over my little one and made sweet potatoes a regular part of our meals.

Sweet Potato Dosa / Sakarai Valli Kizhangu Dosa Recipe
Ingredients
- Sweet potato 75 gm
- Dosa Batter- 1 cup
- Oil or Ghee 1 tsp
- Salt – As required
Seasonings as per choice for savory version
- Onions
- Coriander
- Grated Carrots
For Sweet version
Jaggery – 1 tablespoon
Method
1. To begin the preparation of the sweet potato dosa recipe, make sure to thoroughly wash the sweet potatoes to ensure cleanliness and hygiene.
2. Peel the skin of the washed sweet potatoes. This will help create a smooth texture and enhance the overall taste of the dosa.
3. Next, chop the peeled sweet potatoes into small, uniform pieces. This will ensure that they cook evenly and blend well with the other ingredients when making the sweet potato dosa.
4. To make the flavorful sweet potato dosa batter, simply grind the chopped sweet potato pieces with water and salt. This will result in a smooth and well-seasoned batter, perfect for preparing delicious sweet potato dosas. Adjust the water quantity as needed to achieve the desired consistency.
5. Once the sweet potatoes have been blended to a smooth consistency, add them to the dosa batter and mix thoroughly. Ensure that the sweet potato is well incorporated into the batter, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. This step will infuse the dosa batter with the delightful essence of sweet potato, enhancing its taste and nutritional value.
6. Let the batter sit for a few minutes to allow for fermentation. This resting period enhances the flavors and helps achieve soft and fluffy sweet potato dosas when cooked.
7. Preheat the dosa tawa on the stove.
8. Pour a ladle of batter onto the preheated tawa and add a little ghee or oil.
9. Flip the dosa to cook the other side until golden brown.
Serve hot with chutney or sauce
For the Savory version
Add all the seasonings and make the dosa.
For the Sweet Version
Add cleaned and powdered jaggery to the batter.
