I never thought I would write about adding spices in baby food! Initially, my son preferred spice-free meals, and I hesitated to introduce spices.I started Dal ka paani first and she was happy with the taste. However, when I tried adding a pinch of jeera powder to my daughter’s carrot puree, she loved it! Since then, I’ve been adding spices to her meals, enhancing the flavor without salt or sugar. Dear Hema,
Your above post is really helpful 🙂
My daughter who is 1 year and 1 month now has seemed to get bored of the same routine food.
I have already introduced her to most of the spices from 8 months. Looking ahead to add more spices in her food.
Just a small question: Can I add the ready made masalas that you get in the market like Kitchen king masala, sambhar / pav bhaji / chat masala etc in my toddlers food? This will save my time in cooking separately for her.
Please suggest.
Thanks!

Bosky says
Hi Dr Hema,
I am wanting to start adding spices to the baby puree as we are not having any luck with plain baby puree. He is 9 months old. Never given spices yet – for any puree like carrots, do we simply add pinch of a spice like jeera power (uncooked) once the veggie is blended. If the spices need to be cooked – whats the best way to cook them?
Dr Hemapriya says
Hi Bosky,
You can use the spices in khichdi’s as I have in these recipes, you can add the whole spices in the cooker while cooking and remove when feeding the baby, as while cooking some of the flavour of the spices would have seeped to the food
