Lapsi or broken wheat dessert is a very famous dessert from Gujarat, and unlike other Indian desserts, it doesn’t take too long to make! Like many Moms, I often end up eating my kids’ leftovers just because I can’t stand to waste food. But Lapsi is one dish that I love making for myself, especially when I’m craving something sweet!
Broken Wheat Dessert (Lapsi)
Ingredients:
- Broken Wheat / Dalia – 1/3 bowl
- 100% Organic Jaggery – 1 tablespoon
- Water – 3 – 3 ½ bowl
- Ghee – 2/3 tablespoon
Method:
1. Add ghee in a pressure cooker, followed by the broken wheat. Roast the wheat till it turns golden brown.
2. Mix jaggery and water together. Boil this mixture till the jaggery is completely dissolved.
3. Add the jaggery water to the roasted broken wheat and pressure cook on a medium flame for 3 whistles. Once the pressure releases, scoop it out in a bowl and serve hot.
This dessert is a quick and easy recipe for little ones who ask for something special. Please note that if your baby is very small then you can add extra water and give an extra whistle to make the dish softer and easier for you to mash. This way, you can ensure that the entire family has a sweet little something to have after dinner – age no bar!
